About Me: I discovered my passion for PR when I was working for The Land of Nod, a children’s design brand, now owned by Crate and Barrel. About a year ago, I made the leap out to California, where I currently oversee the PR and Social Media department at Munchkin Inc, a global baby and child product company.
Hire Me For/I'm Good At :
1. Making connections! As a child, people used to call me a chatter box. It wasn’t until I got older that I realized what an asset my penchant for talking could be.
2. Brand-Building—Munchkin has been around for nearly 25 years, and throughout the time, has established a trusted partnership with top retailers around the world. But before I arrived, they hadn’t dedicated many resources to crafting a digital presence. I know it might sound trite, but I truly live by the motto “Go big or go home.” I knew that if we were going to make an impact, I would need a strong strategy and a dedicated team to help execute it. On my second day, I terminated relationships with our external agencies and started building an in-house team. Since then, we’ve hosted 2 major events, worked with over 100 top-tier bloggers and influencers, and served as a sponsor at numerous conferences, included The Altitude Summit. Needless to say, I’m extremely proud of what we’ve accomplished thus far, and truly thrive on the ability to build from the ground up.
Enjoying California! I’m still pretty new to this state, so I love spending the weekend exploring with my family. Trips to the Farmer’s Market, beach days, and of course a hearty brunch rank, amongst our most popular outings.
Mama Inspiration :
-Jacquie Saldana (Baby Boy Bakery): We’ve gotten to know each other the past few years and I am continually inspired by her strength and positivity.
-Michelle Kohanzo (CEO of Land of Nod): Michelle is not only an incredible businesswoman, but also a devoted mom of four and an inspiring mentor. She really does epitomize what it means to “do it all.”
-All my Fellow Mamas: We all have different lives and different challenges throughout this crazy journey we call Parenthood. But at the end of the day, ever mom is an inspiration. We begin making sacrifices the minute we become parents. We lose endless hours of sleep, become an emotional punching bag for just about everything, and struggle in an endless search for balance just about every day. But it’s these challenges that also make the journey so beautiful. I don’t think us mamas give ourselves (or each other) enough credit for the strength we exhibit on a daily basis.
Words you live by/quotes you love:
“Choose a job that you love and you’ll never have to work a day in your life.” -Confucious
Best advice you’ve ever been given:
“There’s more to life than work.” My career is always one of my foremost priorities. It enables me to support my family and gives me to do what I love every day. But it’s also so easy to get swept up in the daily grind. Working in PR and Social Media can become a 24/7 job. But it’s also my job to be a mindful and present mom and spouse. I only get a couple hours every evening to be with my family before we put our son to sleep. During that time, I try to disconnect from technology and focus on them. They’re the most precious part of my life and I want to treasure them every day.
Best advice you’d give to someone starting out:
Work hard and work smart, but stay true to who you are. You don’t have to be mean to get ahead. Help your co-workers and don’t worry about being recognized. If you maintain a positive mindset and hardworking demeanor, people will want to work with you and you’ll naturally reap the rewards.
What are three things people would be surprised to know about you?
1. I’m an identical twin.
2. I’m very Irish. And by that I mean that St. Paddy’s day was almost as big of a deal as Christmas growing up. Every year, we would get gifts, a huge and delicious (green) breakfast, and were told to hand out greeting cards to our classmates. Oh the looks we received….
3. I harbor a serious love for all things hip hop. You can often find me at my desk, with my headphones in as I secretly jam out to Biggie.
