Lives In: London (but currently traveling for one year)
About Me: I grew up in a big family on a tulip farm in the Pacific Northwest. A country girl at heart, I have spent the past twelve years adjusting to city life in bustling central London! I am a mother of four (two boys and two girls) and, despite my smalltown roots, I have always had big desire to see the world. We love to travel and discover new cultures and customs, and this wanderlust has driven us to take a year out to travel around the world for the year. We left London in July and will spend the next year on the go, from South America to NZ and Australia, up to Asia and then back to Europe. We are home schooling our children along the way.
Workwise, I’m the co-founder of Babyccino Kids, a family lifestyle blog and an international web portal of independent children’s boutiques. We represent around 400 stylish children’s brands and shops, most of them owned and run by other mothers scattered around the world. It is our goal to support independent brands who specialize in beautifully designed and crafted products. We also host living shopping events (www.theshopup.com) in both London and NYC.
Hire Me For/I'm Good At: I’ve always been a really visual person. Even as a small child, I spent a lot of time organizing my bedroom and adding pretty details like flowers on my bedside table and pretty trinkets on my dresser. How things look has always been as important to me as how they function. While I don’t have a background in design, I’ve always loved making a space look pretty. I loved renovating and styling our London home and decorating my children’s bedrooms and creative spaces. I’m also well versed in the children’s fashion world. Having attended the children’s trade shows in London, Paris and NYC over the past 6 years, I have an understanding of the many different children’s brands and the upcoming trends for each season. I have a passion for beautiful, timeless children’s clothing and accessories, and often wish I had the time to design my own collection.
Mama Likes: Travel, food, sunshine, beachcombing, yoga, reading, writing, … and of course, my family.
Mama Inspiration: I’m always inspired by Kirsten Rickert (www.kirstenrickert.com) for both her style and creative parenting ideas. I love the way Joanna Goddard (www.joannagoddard.blogspot.com) writes in such an honest and approachable way.
Brands that most reflect your style or that you’d want to work with: I love to work with independent, artisan labels. Fashion wise, I love the beautiful fabrics and textiles from Ace & Jig and the pretty, feminine dresses at Christy Dawn. For children’s fashion, I love working with brands like Mabo Kids, Soor Ploom, Babaa and Amy & Ivor.
Best advice you’ve ever been given: My mom always taught us not to compare ourselves to others, which I think is really important for finding happiness and being content with what you have and what you do. My husband always reminds me not to pay attention to criticism, unless it’s coming from someone whose advice and opinion I trust. This has helped me to stay true to myself and to keep me focused on what I want, not what others want from me.
Best advice you’d give to someone starting out: Be honest, be true to yourself, and… be nice, always be nice.
What are three things people would be surprised to know about you?
1. I am not religious (people always assume I am)
2. I can never remember the words to any songs, but I could whistle the entire tune!
3. I am undefeated in Ping-Pong… in our extremely competitive family tournaments. Haha!
