Lives In: I’m from Texas - Currently living in Romania
About Me: I married my soul mate and will be celebrating our 16th wedding anniversary this September (2015). Years ago, our hearts changed about how my husband and I view children when we experienced a tragic miscarriage. It was really one of the most traumatic things we went through as a married couple because here we were after 9 years trying to conceive and now feeling like we've lost our only chance. And that was devastating. It was a year later that our first born Jonah was born! As I held him for the first time, I could not help but cry thinking what an absolute MIRACLE he was. A little short of nineteen months later, we had another boy named Josiah Lucas. Sixteen months later we had another girl, Priscilla Christina. Thirty-two months later another girl Salome Ruth. Our oldest is six, and we have four children! There will always be room to love another, because life is a GIFT and children are a blessing from the Lord.
Never for one moment have I taken my babies for granted. I am laboring to build a stable family and believe in my God-given ministry, embracing the most beautiful thing called “motherhood.” To nurture is my greatest fulfillment. What a privilege! Yes, there are days when I feel burned out with no hope of accomplishing anything. Labor of mothering can be wearying! Can I get an Amen? But I believe every moment has the potential to be a special one as I minister to the needs of my babies and children—smiling, cooking, singing, bathing, playing, cleaning house… It’s my quality time. I will concede that it takes time to learn to totally mother. God has gently taught me with each baby to give more freely to my babies and let go of my own needs. My fourth baby Salome led me into this beautiful way of mothering. I will breastfeed her freely and will let her wean when she's ready and not a second sooner. I am still learning to embrace whatever season whole-heartedly and get every great memory out of it that I can. Because before I know it, it will be gone.
During all this time, we moved countless times, had babies in-between, moved back and forth between two countries, all while building our home here in Romania. This year was our first year of home schooling, which I never knew it would take more patience, character, wisdom, organization, and management abilities, than running a large corporation! Even when we're not officially in school, we're still looking for things to learn about. I believe children belong outdoors as much as possible and that they learn best through experiences and daily life with their family. It might be at the desk, it might be at the dining table, or getting dirty making mud pies At this tender age, life is to be savored, enjoyed - not hurried.
I'm Good At: I love being creative and have an eye for beauty and artistic flair. From an early age I scavenged every bit of interior design intelligence I could gather. My passion for interior design began on my own journey towards the perfect home. Dan, a real-estate investor, and I, a passionate interior designer, have together designed and built most of the homes we lived in. We went through the difficult process of drawing floor plans, to choosing accessories that reflect the reality of my growing family, and the desire to feel good about serving and welcoming guests in our home.
I basically started cooking when I became a mom. I quickly learned that the kitchen is more than a room. If it isn’t cooking something nourishing to eat, it might be baking with my little loves a healthy dessert recipe. It is there in the kitchen where we welcome friends and those who are lonely, sit them at the table, and stuff them full. I want my children to always remember the warmth of our home, the happiness, security, and cherished moments
